What’s the best way for salespeople to take care of their customers?

BusinessBrief.com suggests that you consider a recent survey, which John Tschohl wrote about in his book Cashing in on Success, that asked customers, “What do you want from a salesperson? What would be the No. 1 attribute of your favorite salesperson?”

The response: 91% said, “Be there when I need you."

Translation: You don’t have to be the quickest, you don’t have to be the cheapest, you don’t have to be the smartest — We at Dalton Electric Heating know that if you're always available when your customers need you, you’ll get the business.

A few ways to let customers know you’re there for them:

• Give them your cell phone number ... you know best who will not take advantage.
• Give them a Web URL where they can go on their own for info.
• Tell them how to get a hold of you and when’s the best time to reach you.
• Monitor your email sufficiently often to respond to their immediate needs.
• Let them know who else they can turn to for help (tell them who else is on your team).

Bob had been gambling in the casinos of Las Vegas all weekend and was down on his luck, he’d lost over $30,000! He had gambled away all his money, including his emergency money and had to borrow a dime from another gambler just to use the men’s room.

By luck the stall happened to be open, so he gambled his last borrowed dime in a slot machine and hit the $500 jackpot! He took his lucky winnings and went to the blackjack table and turned his winnings into ten million dollars before calling it a day.

Wealthy beyond his wildest dreams, Bob went on the lecture circuit, where he told his incredible lucky gambling story. He told his audience of unlucky gamblers that he was eternally grateful to his benefactor, and if he ever found the man who made his current life possible, he would share his lucky fortune with him right down the middle.

After months of gambling lectures, a man in the audience jumped up and said, “I’m that man. I was the one who gave you the dime.” Bob replied “You’re not the one I’m looking for. I’m looking for the guy who left the stall door open!”
