Abusive environments and applications often demand that we protect the leads that power the Watt-Flex® cartridge heaters. Different ways of accomplishing this carry different levels of protection and are applied depending on the needs. Today we will focus on the Stainless Steel Hose and Braid. The stainless steel hose that we use is a specially designed interlocking pattern that ensures that the hose will not unravel. It is high temperature brazed to a header, either right angle, straight or at a different specified angle. The flux used in the brazing process is conductive, so we do not use it around the terminals of the heater. After cleaning the assembly thoroughly, we TIG weld the header to the heater. ![]() Braid is a little more difficult to attach. Many manufacturers simply crimp the braid onto the transition piece on the heater, but Dalton Electric goes one step further. A sizing ring is inserted into the braid and a containment ring is placed over the top. This assembly is brazed together, eliminating the possibility of a crimp failure. Then it is added to the header, cleaned and welded to the heater. There is a little extra cost associated with this procedure, but it ensures that you will be provided with the desired protection for the life of the heater.
Friday Funnies Lem: ''I got fired from my job as a bank guard.'' Clem: ''That's awful. What happened?'' Lem: ''Well a thief came in to rob the bank. I drew my gun. I told him that if he took one more step, I'd let him have it.'' Clem: ''What did the thief do then?'' Lem: ''He took one more step so I let him have it. I didn't want that stupid gun anyhow!''
