I received a flier in the mail and the theme of the conference it was advertising caught my eye ... "Navigating the New Normal." It read, "With the world facing many new challenges today that were not foreseen only a few years ago, this year's conference will explore ways to thrive in this new global environment." There is undeniably a "New Normal" in a macro sense. Government spending and widespread lack of accountability, a ballooning national debt in America and growing unemployment will manifest as problems in 2010 and years to come. The economic road ahead is full of potholes and will require an awareness that consumer spending is, and will remain, down ... consumer confidence is also down ... and the credit crunch will continue. This all translates to a soft economy in the coming year.
On a micro level, is there really a "New Normal"? Sure, success of sales-driven companies will depend on our ability to adapt to markedly tightened business spending. And products selected for purchase will come under growing scrutiny, to ensure that they match the business goals of better performance and cost cutting. But our job still comes down to hard-nosed sales ... matching our products with the needs of our customers and making them aware that doing business with us is in their best interest. Everything has changed, and nothing has changed. Challenges in the coming year require adaptation and, at the same time, application of time-honored principles of success. We, at Dalton Electric Heating Co., stand with you in preparation for success and encourage you to partner with us in the "New Normal."
Friday Funnies As in many homes on New Year's Day, my wife and I faced the annual conflict of which was more important - the football games on television, or the dinner itself. To keep peace, I ate dinner with the rest of the family, and even lingered for some pleasant after-dinner conversation before retiring to the family room to turn on the game. Several minutes later, my wife came downstairs and graciously even brought a
cold drink for me. She smiled, kissed me on the cheek and asked what the score
was. I told her it was the end of the third quarter and that the score was still nothing
to nothing.
